Ryan Buck was born September 20th, 1989 in Las Vegas, Nevada. After living in the heat of the desert for the first seven years of his life he moved from the big city to tiny little Ottumwa, Iowa where he graduated from Ottumwa High School and received all conference honors in football. At the age of 13 he purchased his first bass which came with an amp no bigger than a box of Cracker Jacks. Hours of studying and practicing every day to be able to play all the amazing bass lines he heard his favorite artists had created ensued. It wasn't until he joined a local cover band that he began to take music seriously, honing his art and learning theory along the way. After hours and days of studying on the internet concerning music theory and things like flamenco and classical guitar he realized that he needed to create his own music instead of just playing everyone elses. Fed up with the way the cover band was going he decided to do an internet search of bands in the area who might be looking for a bass player. Surprisingly the first band he clicked on "Censored" had a large section of there page devoted to searching for a bass player. After a failed attempt to reach the band Ryan left a voicemail for a David Birchmier. Finally his call was returned and the meeting of the two musicians was conducted in the same manner as a job interview for an upper management position at a large corporation. After maybe an hour the interview ended and it was time to go to "The School House", where censored practiced nearly an hour away for my audition. Not fifteen minutes after the full band had arrived and started playing through the songs Ryan was inducted as an honorary member of censored. ...And as they say, the rest is history |
